Saskatchewan's Outstanding Young Farmers' Program

Regional Event

The Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmers’ Program is run by the OYF alumni (past winners), with some assistance from Kevin and Marlene Hursh of Hursh Consulting & Communications.

We’re always looking for nominees. The nominee must be responsible for a majority of management decisions in operating the farm and must derive a minimum of two-thirds of gross revenue from the farming operation.

Nominees must not have reached the age of 40 as of January 1 in the year of the competition.

Judging is based on:

  • Progress in agricultural career
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Production history
  • Financial and management practices
  • Contributions to the well being of the community, province and nation
  • Financial progress

The OYF program is a way to recognize progressive, young producers. The competition aspect is secondary.

For many years, the Saskatchewan event has been held in June during the Western Canada Farm Progress Show in Regina. The Saskatchewan honouree goes on to compete at the national event.
